The Greatest Of These Is God’s Love.

"The Greatest Love of All" is a song written by Michael Masser, who composed the music, and Linda Creed, who wrote the lyrics.” Some of the lyrics are, “The greatest love of all is happening to me. I found the greatest love of all inside of me. The greatest love of all is easy to achieve. Learning to love yourself. It is the greatest love of all.”

However, the Bible says the greatest commandment is to love the Lord with all of your heart and soul and to love your neighbors as yourself (Matthew 22:37-39).  One of the challenges of this culture is learning to love God rather than simply loving yourself.  Sadly, many are loving themselves so much that they end up loving things and using people rather than the reverse.  In the Bible, there was the parable of the man who had so much that he decided to tear down his barns to store more of his riches for himself not knowing that he was to die that night (Luke 12:18-20).

No, the greatest love is in Christ who wants to live in us (Colossians 3:16).  We should all emulate God who loved us so much that He gave His own Son for the world (John 3:16), There was no hidden agenda, no personal ego; He loved because that is what He is; love (1 John 4:16). He wants us to love people with His love.  He wants us to lay aside some of our personal desires and put others before us.  He wants us to love Him and love others. This is the greatest love.

Matthew 22:37-39

New International Version

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Luke 12:18-20

New International Version

18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain
19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

Colossians 3:16

New International Version

16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.

John 3:16

New International Version

16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

1 John 4:16

New International Version

16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
