Working Together In Unity

Allyson Chiu wrote an article in the July 26, 2019 issue of the Washington Post entitled, ‘It snuck up on us’: Scientists stunned by ‘city-killer’ asteroid that just missed Earth.”  It went on to state that “...it had seemingly appeared from “out of nowhere,” Michael Brown, a Melbourne-based observational astronomer, told The Washington Post.”  Apparently, the asteroid had come within one-fifth of the distance from the earth. Further, the article stated, “… “It would have gone off like a very large nuclear weapon” with enough force to destroy a city.”  Since no one can realistically predict which city might be destroyed, it seems that we are in this together.

Benjamin Franklin wrote, “We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”  God has given man the resources, the wisdom, the knowledge and the understanding to solve many of our problems.  The Bible says that He has given us everything that pertains unto life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3).  The Bible further states that if any two of us would agree about anything, that God would do it for us (Matthew 18:19).

Knowing that we are facing climate change, worldwide pollution, cybercrimes, and unknowable catastrophes which may await us, we have the power to effectively deal with these problems with God’s direction.  He said that if His people who are called by His Name, would humble themselves, turn from their evil ways and seek His face, then He would hear from heaven and heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Truly our land needs healing.  Currently our superficial differences in doctrine, beliefs, political groups, and ethnic groups prevent us from seeing that we are all in this together. If one small asteroid can wipe us out, perhaps we can draw solace from the scriptures that say greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4) and if He is for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31).  Let us work together in unity with God.

2 Peter 1:3
New International Version (NIV)
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

Matthew 18:19
New International Version (NIV)
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

2 Chronicles 7:14
New International Version (NIV)
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

1 John 4:4
New International Version (NIV)
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Romans 8:31
New International Version (NIV)
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
